DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Police authorities and a women’s rights leader here appealed to other victims and survivors of the abuses of disgraced doomsday preacher Apollo Quiboloy to come out and also file complaints against him.
This developed after several women have asked for police assistance and then narrated the abuses they suffered in the hands of Quiboloy and other leaders of his church the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.
Colonel Hansel Marantan, acting director of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), told a news briefing Thursday, September 12, that there have been victims who had sought out their help. Marantan said these victims narrated the details of their alleged abuse in the hands of Quiboloy.
“We will get their statements and we will file cases based on these,” Marantan said.
Marantan said some the victims were offered free education by Quiboloy’s church in exchange for so-called pastoral service for self-styled pastor.
Some of the victims even claimed they were abused by Quiboloy, said Marantan. The police officer added: “He’s a pedophile.”
Marantan then called on other victims to step forward. He said: “This is your chance to come out in the open, Quiboloy and the others have been arrested.”
“We will seek justice for you. Do not fear, otherwise the truth of what happened to you will be buried with you,” the Davao City top cop added.
Meanwhile, the Davao Police Regional Office 11 (PRO11) also confirmed that several victims who were rescued during the 16-day search for Quiboloy and his cohorts have already given their statements to the cops. These will be added to the filing of more cases against the arrested church leader.
Lieutenant Colonel Jerick Filisofo, who was part of the police team which laid siege on the KOJC compound, told Rappler that some of the alleged victims of Quiboloy who were rescued in the church compound were minors and young women.
In a related development, women’s rights group leader Mae Fe Templa, who was instrumental in the filing of the first sexual abuse against Quiboloy from a complainant who had sought for her assistance, also called out other victims.
Templa, who used to be a consultant for the Davao City government’s social work agency, recalled that she previously helped a girl build a case against Quiboloy. But they were frustrated because, Templa said, some influential people helped Quiboloy avoid prosecution.
Now that Quiboloy has been arrested, Templa said it was time for ther survivors and victims to come out and sue the disgraced church leader.
Maybe a hotline can be created where victims can call, said Templa. – Rappler.com
