MANILA, Philippines – The ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles are getting much-needed veteran firepower in the upcoming PVL season, snagging up former Cignal star spiker Sgt. Jovelyn Gonzaga on Tuesday, October 15.
The 32-year-old winger is expected to debut for the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference in November to coincide with the highly-anticipated arrival of Alas Pilipinas middle blocker Thea Gagate, ZUS Coffee’s first overall pick in the inaugural Rookie Draft.
The standout pair will bring further championship-caliber experience to a team brimming with promising talent like surprise 2024 Reinforced Rookie of the Conference Sharya Ancheta and former St. Benilde champion stars Cloanne Mondonedo, Gayle Pascual, and Mich Gamit.
A two-time Philippine SuperLiga MVP and Best Opposite Spiker, Gonzaga is also a former indoor national team captain and beach volleyball star who last played with Cignal in the 2023 Second All-Filipino Conference before taking a season-long hiatus.
ZUS Coffee, known as Strong Group Athletics in its first foray into the PVL, has yet to win a single game in the pro ranks, going 0-8 in the previous Reinforced Conference and 0-11 in the 2024 All-Filipino tilt. – Rappler.com
