MANILA, Philippines – Many Filipinos believe that the private sector leaves a positive impact on their livelihoods and ensures that they get better value for their money.
A recent Pulse Asia survey commissioned by the Stratbase Group asked Filipinos how they think the private sector and the government can collaborate on developing the country’s services.
Stratbase group founder and chief executive officer Victor Andres Manhit has noted that collaboration between the private sector and the government plays a huge role in shaping the country’s economic future.
“The government sets the direction and creates the enabling environment, while the private sector brings in the capital, innovation, and efficiency needed to implement large-scale projects and be a reliable driver for new industries that support a multitude of linked businesses,” Manhit said.
The survey was conducted from September 6 to 13, with 1,200 respondents choosing three areas from a list provided by Pulse Asia.
Survey results showed most Filipinos believe the private sector has a big role in three key areas: expanding livelihood opportunities (51%), making goods more accessible and affordable (51%), and creating high-quality jobs (48%).
Meanwhile, many respondents also believe that the sector has an impact on improving healthcare services (43%), developing the skills of the Filipino workforce (36%), improving the quality of digital services (33%), and developing public infrastructure (26%).
Manhit noted that the private sector has the resources to “catalyze growth across multiple sectors.” For instance, even the Department of Agriculture has noted that the private sector can help improve the state of the country’s agriculture through needed investments.
“Private enterprises have the proven ability to adapt swiftly to market needs to ensure the continuous provision of goods and services that benefit Filipino consumers and create millions of gainful employment,” Manhit said. – Rappler.com
