MANILA, Philippines – The 133 cardinal electors who will choose the successor of the late Pope Francis are beginning Wednesday, May 7, with a pre-conclave Mass.
The Mass for the Election of a Roman Pontiff (Pro Eligendo Romano Pontifice) will be celebrated in Saint Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican, 10 am local time on Wednesday (4 pm, Manila time).
Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, dean of the College of Cardinals, will preside over the Mass. The Italian prelate also delivered the homily during the funeral Mass for Pope Francis.
The conclave itself will begin at 4:30 pm local time on Wednesday (10:30 pm, Manila time).
