MANILA, Philippines – Rozzano Rufino “Ruffy” Biazon won a second term as Muntinlupa City mayor on Monday, May 12.
Biazon ran unopposed and garnered at least 203,680 votes as of 11:17 pm on Monday based on partial, unofficial results sourced from the Comelec Media Server.
The Muntinlupa mayor acknowledged the unopposed race as a “unique situation,” in a post released a week before election day.
“Sa unang pagkakataon sa Muntinlupa, totally unopposed ang kandidato para mayor (For the first time in Muntinlupa, the mayoral candidate is totally unopposed),” Biazon wrote in the post, where he asked candidates for other positions who are running with other parties or independently about their platforms for the city.
Biazon ran under the local party One Muntinlupa, as he did back in 2022.
Before he was elected Muntinlupa mayor in 2022, he served as the lone district representative from 2001 to 2010 and again from 2016 to 2022.
He attempted a Senate run in 2010 but lost. His father, the late Rodolfo “Pong” Biazon, was former Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff, senator, and Muntinlupa representative.
The younger Biazon became Bureau of Customs commissioner under the administration of former president Benigno Aquino III. He resigned from the post after he was implicated in the pork barrel scam. – Rappler.com
