CEBU, Philippines – Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Marie Torres-Gomez secured a second office term after winning the local election on Monday, May 12.
Torres received 89,123 votes, defeating her opponent Violy Codilla, the wife of the late Edward Codilla, a former mayor of Ormoc City. This is based on partial, unofficial results with all of the precincts reporting as of 12:46 pm, on Tuesday, May 13.
According to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Ormoc has 161,281 registered voters in the 2025 polls, up from 143,686 in 2022.
Leyte is the fourth most vote-rich province in the Visayas, after Cebu, Negros Occidental, and Iloilo, with around 1.09 million registered voters.
Torres served as Leyte’s 4th District representative from 2010 to 2022 before winning her first mayoral term in 2022 under the Duterte-aligned Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP–Laban).
In this election, she ran under the Marcos-led Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), while Codilla ran under the National Unity Party (NUP). – Rappler.com
